McCann scores twice as Kraken rout Capitals 5-1; Ovechkin adds another milestone goal

Jared McCann delivered a four-point night as the Seattle Kraken beat the Washington Capitals 5-1 on Tuesday in Seattle, using a decisive second period to take control and never look back.

McCann scored twice and added two assists, while Jordan Eberle and Matty Beniers each recorded a goal and an assist. Ryker Evans also scored for Seattle, and goaltender Philipp Grubauer turned aside 19 shots.

Second-period burst puts Seattle in charge

After a scoreless first period, Seattle struck early in the second with a power-play goal, then added another as McCann converted a rebound to make it 2-0. Eberle’s goal late in the period extended the margin and sent the Kraken into the third with a commanding lead.

A potential McCann hat-trick moment early in the third was wiped out following an officials’ review tied to a penalty sequence, keeping the door slightly open for Washington—but the Capitals struggled to generate sustained pressure at even strength.

Ovechkin scores for Washington

Alex Ovechkin scored on the power play for Washington’s only goal, adding another highlight to his historic career. The Capitals’ offense otherwise stalled, and goalie Logan Thompson faced heavy traffic, finishing with 27 saves in defeat.

Seattle closes it out

Evans restored the four-goal cushion late in the third, and Beniers added another to cap the scoring. Seattle’s mix of special-teams execution, depth scoring, and steady goaltending made the difference in a lopsided final.

The Capitals were scheduled to continue their road swing next, while the Kraken remained at home for their next matchup.
