Rangers rally past Bruins in overtime as Robertson scores winner and Pastrnak hits 900 points

A comeback, then an overtime burst
The New York Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 overtime win against the Boston Bruins at Madison Square Garden on Monday, January 26, 2026, in a game reported by NHL.com on Tuesday. The Rangers needed late drama to get there: Will Borgen scored at 13:43 of the third period to tie the game, and defenseman Matthew Robertson finished it at 3:53 of overtime with what NHL.com described as his first professional overtime game-winning goal.
Robertson’s winner came on a solo rush from the defensive zone after receiving the puck from goaltender Jonathan Quick, and he beat Bruins goalie Joonas Korpisalo to end the game.
Quick’s milestone win
Quick made 21 saves and earned his first victory since November 7, according to NHL.com. The win was also the 408th of his career, moving him past Glenn Hall into 12th on the NHL’s all-time list of goalie wins. For the Rangers, it was a timely boost as they look to build momentum before the Olympic break.
Bruins surge, then stall late
Boston controlled much of the middle part of the game. Elias Lindholm scored twice, and Morgan Geekie added a goal as the Bruins carried a 3-2 lead into the third. NHL.com noted Boston had been nearly automatic when leading after two periods this season, making the Rangers’ rally an especially painful exception.
The Rangers’ third-period push paid off when a Borgen shot appeared to deflect before finding the net, setting the stage for Robertson’s overtime finish.
Pastrnak’s 900th point comes in a loss
Bruins star David Pastrnak had three assists and recorded his 900th career NHL point on Geekie’s goal, NHL.com reported. The milestone, however, was overshadowed by the loss, with Pastrnak describing it as “bittersweet” given the final result.
A trade note after the final horn
NHL.com also reported that after the game the Rangers traded defenseman Carson Soucy to the New York Islanders for a third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft—an added bit of roster movement attached to a night that already featured plenty of swings on the ice.
